Professor emeritus Piet Holewijn died

On February 4th, 2019 Piet Holewijn died at the age of 83. He was connected to the Department of Mathematics at VU since the year 1971, first as lector and later as full professor in stochastics.

He was an extraordinary teacher, which became particularly appearent when he was lecturing for advanced students. Piet Holewijn was an independent mind with his own view on university business and the position of his own field within it. With it came a great sense of humor which helped him to deal with any arising problems. After his retirement he still published two lecture books with his former co-worker Dr. Klaas van Harn. The last one, on stochastics and measure theory, shall appear this year with VU University Press.
